Brain Games and Exercise: A Drug-Free Treatment for ADHD?
Health.com - Article Print Page - Brain Games and Exercise: A Drug-Free Treatment for ADHD?
It is a SAD day in America.
The problem has been created because we have lost track of cost and demand, demand is exceeding supply, thus driving up cost. This is totally evident in the financial crisis where Americans were duped into buying homes and goods they could not afford. The health crisis where 80-90% of all health care cost is related to poor lifestyle choices. First problem that no one sees and is evident by the article below in today's NYT telling Americans their health insurance company has been forced to provide mental health benefits on par with physical health benefits. This is a noble cause, BUT where is the money going to come from to pay for it. How is it going to be controlled? Just look a medicare and you can see how fraud can destroy a program. Or will the "insurance companies" just have to pay for it. Looks like OUR PREMIUMS are about to go up up and up some mre (AND THEY ARE) and we have no choice. Insurance companies do not even know the impact of this legislation that has been silent in the national health care debate. Politicians have taken an attitude of "do not disturb the sleeping dog". Add this to political correctness of the second article regarding people and their choices and we have the making of a perfect storm.
As most know, I am an advocate of a healthy lifestyle. I preach it, I live it. This may not be for everybody, but everyone has to do their part or nation will fail. It is happening today and it happened to Rome 2000 years ago. When will the insanity stop - I predict when we run out of money and THE ABILITY TO PRINT MONEY. We can not create a health care system that treats every thing for every body PERIOD! I am now predicting a resurgence of "smokers rights" as they should allow to be smokers just like fat people should be allowed to be fat - or should they pay more because they consume more? Obesity and the increase in chronic conditions and the cost associated with them is a fact. The problem is no one wants to talk about it. Mental health is an expense time bomb because there is no "cure", patients can be treated "for life". It is all subjective. Take for instance the mental condition of ADD & ADHD, which is found mostly in boys because of their nature they do not fit into our cookie cutter schools. Currently there are about 10 million diagnosed and drugged, this is approx 18 billion in prescriptions per year. This is just the beginning of exploding cost, because once an industry that has not seen coverage from insurance companies get coverage they get very creative in their efforts to tap this new source of income. The cash flow stream can be massive. I call it money for life.
Add the 100's of billions that will be spent on mental health, oh yea just remember the new legislation will prohibit pre-existing conditions so all companies will have to take on this cost. Oh yea do not think this will just stay with the companies with over 50 employees because the new legislation will wrap this mental health parity law into all plans and no one knows the cost. Next we add the cost to treat everyone for anything and we have a BANKRUPT NATION. It is sad day to see our politicians "high fiveing" each other when we just killed the goose that laid the golden egg.

Biggest loser of 'reform': small biz
a) SB owners will have to OFFER insurance or pay 8% fine. N...EW, and look at all the fast food restaurants and service businesses that do not provide such benefits that will have to now provide all employees with health insurance - wait there's more.
b) SB owners who are already doing the right thing or NEW to the program (because of this legislation) will have to now pay 70% of the employee cost (currently 50%) and 65% of the family coverage (currently 0%) - Just think if you own a business that could not offer health insurance, you will now be forced to provide PLUS pay for 75% of the cost.
c) PREMIUMS will explode because insurance companies will have to accept the uninsured that have preexisting conditions. The uninsured that are healthy will opt for the SMALL FINE and stay uninsured. IF the uninsured get sick, no problem because the insurance companies have to accept them when they apply, no questions asked.
Just think what this will to to the cost of goods every small business sells for services provided. Prices will go up, more people will be laid off, jobs will be eliminated permanently, more part time workers. OH YES BAD NEWS. None of this addresses the root cause of the health care crisis - POOR LIFESTYLE CHOICES. The CDC and many other national organizations attribute 60-90% of all health care cost to poor lifestyle choices starting with EATING AND SMOKING. Will Americans CHANGE, they voted for it but will they change THEMSELVES?

The “MIS” information must stop if we are to have real reform
I am mad as hell and just cannot take it any longer. We must have heath and healthcare reform, but the LIES MUST STOP! Point in CASE - Alabama. Our PRESIDENT made direct reference to Alabama - he insinuated oligarchy health institutions like Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama are taking advantage of situations and raising the cost of health insurance premium: FACTS he did not tell:
- Alabama has the 5th LOWEST, let me repeat 5th lowest, when it comes to health insurance premiums in the NATION. (2008 Medical Expenditure Panel Survey)
- Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama is a NON-PROFIT. This is what he is proposing. (Alabama Secretary of State – Business) We need insurance companies to return to their roots of non-profits and mutuals (companies owned by the policy holders)
Hello, what more can he ask for as proof of a system that works. Next we see him switch the number of uninsured without explaining what he has done. Yes, the number now is 30 million down from 50 million. Big swing, when they used the 50 million to get elected and now they say the number is 30 million. How can you believe their numbers now when they misrepresented the numbers in the past? The new number is minus ILLEGALS AND RESIDENT ALLIENS. Wow, glad we got that clear.
This blogger definitely wants REFORM, but only the reform that will help the people of this nation. I an in favor of removing employer sponsored healthcare. (I did not say "employer paid" because the consumer has been paying 100% all along) A consumer centric system of protection that rewards healthy lifestyles is the only plan that will work. More to come on the Cash Doctor "Consumer Centric PLAN".
